Nîmes, the land of golf
Nîmes has two excellent golf courses that complement one another, making it an ideal holiday destination for golfers of all stripes wanting to indulge in their passion for the game during weekends and holidays.
The Vacquerolles and Campagne golf courses, in partnership with Nîmes Métropole, hold the Touris’Golf challenge to invite you to discover their courses in a spirit of competition and conviviality.
Two courses, two golfing experiences
The Nîmes Campagne golf course , located a few kilometres south of Nîmes in the renowned wine area of the Costières plateau, was designed and constructed by the architects Léonard Morandi and Donald Harradine. The course was first opened on 6 June 1970 for an exhibition match that brought together Jean Garaïalde, Martin Ado, Roger Cotton and Tito Lassalle. In the course of Open Cacharel, the unofficial amateur world championship, many famous players took on this challenging course, players like Greg Norman, Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnan, José Maria Olazabal and Bernhard Langer (who holds the course record with a score of 65).
Ranked 75th among European golf courses and 26th among French golf courses in 2003, this short but tough 5,535-metre long, lush green par-72 surrounded by rich, diverse foliage will give you a chance to play your best golf yet. Its clubhouse, located in a White House replica, can recount the whole history of this golf course to you.
The Nîmes Vacquerolles golf course, located to the northeast of Nîmes, was designed by Bill Baker in the 1990s. It is famous for its difficulty, its many dogleg-left holes, its plateau greens and its hilly par-3s. It measures 6,185m in length (par 72) and regularly hosts national competitions for the top clubs. At the Vacquerolles course, situated in the heart of the garrigue of the hills of Nîmes, you will no doubt have a chance to cross paths with some wildlife, which speaks to the quality of our area’s green spaces.
The golf courses of Nîmes have invented a novel way of welcoming tourists with the “Touris’Golf” challenge.
Golf games during a visit to a region or country shouldn’t always have to be reduced to a stroll without stakes, which is why the golf courses of Nîmes have decided to offer tourist golfers a personalised welcome and spice up their game.
In addition to a personalised welcome – with logoed balls, cart rental and a bucket of balls at the driving range – golfers passing through (who live more than 150km away) can watch their scores on the Nîmes Campagne and Nîmes Vacquerolles courses turn into a chance to win a golf holiday in French Rome.
For the Nîmes Metropolitan area, this is also a chance to get golfers involved in welcoming tourists, a vital task for the economy of an area at the crossroads of Provence, the Camargue and the Cévennes.
Nîmes, the land of golf, intends to draw on the quality and complementarity of its courses to attract golf aficionados, no matter where they come from.
