THE FORMER MINING SCHOOL TURNED OPEN CAMPUS
On the sprawling 9,000m2 land, the iconic Parc Georges Besse building has become a multidisciplinary campus.
Once the former École pour les Études et la Recherche en Informatique et Electronique; later, the École des Mines d’Alès, the site is now an open campus, a place of learning, research and continuing education. The engineering school was established here in 2017, and expects to welcome 500 students a year after their undergraduate degree. The Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts) is also found here, along with the continuing education services of SAUR, a water management agency.
The engineering school ISEN YNCREA Méditerranée has been set up here since 2016, and will soon count more than 300 students, as well as continuing education course participants. EERIE is also home to the digital business school DBS; Créajeux, the school for professions in video games (www.creajeux.fr); the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts) and SAUR’s continuing education centre, which will be joined by the graduate school in computer engineering IN’TECH; the Nîmes Business School 2018 is also the year the FabLab in Nîmes began, and it has since been supporting creativity and the convergence of companies, teachers, students and the general public.
The services of the Agence de développement économique (Economic Development Agency) of the Nîmes Metropolitan area have also found a place for themselves here.
An up-and-coming site
There are many projects still in the works, making the OPEN CAMPUS a lively place of interaction at the very heart of a dynamic educational environment.
